Vitalcare calls for industry collaboration to improve quality of care through technology innovation
Last week at ITAC, Vitalcare announced an opportunity for aged care facilities, carers and staff to be involved in the 2020 Innovation Challenge.
They are calling for expressions of interests to collaborate and to solve aged and community care issues through leveraging of digital technologies and university-led innovation.
Logan Ross, CEO of Vitalcare, explained “Vitalcare is committed to making a difference using innovation, technology and digital advancement in a collaborative initiative for the industry. We are determined to improve the quality of aged and community care through new technology.”
Vitalcare has committed $100,000 in prizes and project funding and invited students and start-ups to enter its 2020 Innovation Challenge. The mission of the Challenge is to create innovative technology initiatives that positively impact older Australians or people living with a disability or cognitive impairment.
A key initiative in this year’s Innovation Challenge is a collaboration with industry experts and judges through an online platform for students and start-ups to engage with clients and industry experts. In addition, Vitalcare will also provide entrants free access to Vitalcare’s wired and IoT wireless nurse call platforms, critical messaging systems and devices, along with mentorship for students.
This year, Vitalcare welcomes Rod Young, Chairman of ITAC and Director of Horsley Services to the expert panel of judges. This collaboration highlights the importance of recognising the need to accelerate innovation, technology and digital advancement in the sector.
“Digital technologies can improve quality of life, care and independence for older Australians, and those living with a disability, and also support aged care and community services,” Mr Young said.
Vitalcare has been working with universities for some years and recently successfully deployed new technology for fall detection and dementia care developed through those relationships. Mr Ross is encouraging Universities across Australia to engage their postgraduate students with aged care and community groups to collaboratively apply innovation and new technology to solve real-world problems.
“Together, we want to help drive innovation and technology in the aged and community services sector, by boosting research and development in innovative technologies and delivering advances in quality care.”
